My Week So Far

Hello fellow blog followers!

So far I have survived my classes here in Ambialet. Our first day was Monday and I had just one class that day, which was Art History taught by Gerry. I will have this class every Monday from 3:30 to 5:30. Most weeks we have an expose due, and the first one is due next Monday! Luckily, I got partnered up with Katie for the exposes, one of my best friends that is in France with me. I am not sure how we managed this, but we are sure happy about it! Part of our presentations have to be done orally in French! This should be interesting, considering I now speak a total of 5 French words that I can remember.

I am also taking an anatomy course online/through Skype and we had our first conference call with Dr. Langer, the professor. Afterwards, Katie and I went to the supermarket and brought back a few goodies for dessert! They have amazing desserts!

The rest of the evening was spend doing some homework, chatting with my friends, and playing with Jay-Z! A pretty good day overall!

Today (Tuesday) class started at 9. For future reference for anyone considering using the IPod as an alarm clock...DON'T. We set the alarm clock for 7:30, and it did not go off until 8:45. Keep in mind I was expected to be in the classroom by 9. Not such a great start to the morning.

Our first class this morning was French with Marie. She started out in English for today, but she mostly speaks French the whole time. I have never taken a French class in my life, so I definitely have some learning to do! I have French every Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesday, Marie comes to the monastery to teach us, and on Thursdays we will go to a university in Albi for French class. After class, we have some free time to walk around the city, shop, get something to eat, or whatever we want to do. I will have French class for a total of 6 hours every week. When I get home, I may actually know a thing or two about speaking French!

My second class today was Religious Studies. Tomorrow I will be Toulouse bound to learn about some of the places there that relate to this class. I am really excited to learn by going to see things, instead of just sitting in a classroom the whole time! Toulouse is the city I flew into in France for those of you who might not know. It is about an hour and a half away from Ambialet. We have to meet at 8:45 tomorrow morning. Don't worry, we have someone coming to make sure we are awake on time tomorrow! We wouldn't want to miss our first "field trip." I will have a lot of pictures to post tomorrow night, so make sure you look for them on facebook. We are expected to be back around 6 or a little after tomorrow. Well I better get some sleep since we have a big day tomorrow! I will try to keep up with my blog as much as possible, but I will be a lot busier now since classes have started.

I forgot to mention that I was introduced to a new "food" today called croque monsieur. It is a ham and cheese sandwich with melted cheese on top! Delicious! Our chef Bernard is amazing and is so nice. He only speaks French, so when we talk to him, it is rather funny!

Well I am off to bed! Bon Soir! :)
