First full day in Paris

What a long, but fun day exploring the city of Paris. We started out the morning with breakfast, then had a seminar from 9:30-11 to discuss our plans for the next couple of days. Also at seminar, we got our assignments for museums that we have to visit. Each one of us has a different museum that we have to visit on Monday. Don't worry mom, my friends and I already decided that we are all going together to the museums so that none of us has to go to our museum alone. After we visit the particular museum, we have to put a presentation together to present to Gerry Monday night for a grade. My museum is La Conciergerie.

After seminar, we departed FIAP (where I am staying) and took a bus to the Opera house, where we saw a movie on the history of France from 12-1. After the presentation on France, we took the metro to the Marais district, where we went to place des vosages and had lunch. I had my first experience eating a falafel, which is a vegetarian meal usually served in a pita. The falafel balls are topped with lettuce and pickled vegetables and sauce. It was good, but I couldn't eat falafels all the time. It was good to try something that I have never eaten before.

After lunch, we went to the Musee Carnavalet, which is a museum dedicated to the history of the city. However, a lot of the museum was closed down for renovations, so we did not get to see a lot of it. After this museum, we had free time until 6:30. During this time, I did some shopping in Paris! I got a dress and sandals that I love and am excited to wear over Spring break (hopefully it gets warm enough)! I had a blast shopping in Paris. Now I know why everyone says it is the fashion capitol of the world!

After shopping, we had to meet at 6:30 to visit the Galerie Mona Lisa, which was an art museum that contain more modern art. It has been my favorite art museum so far and the paintings were absolutely amazing. I wanted to take some of them with me. Too bad they were 2480948609438720809382 dollars. My favorite painting there one perfect for my parent's new bedroom wall and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

After this museum, we were done with our required meetings for the day, so we took the metro back to FIAP and had dinner. I am looking forward to some down time tonight since we were so busy today. We have some free time tomorrow morning before another very busy afternoon and evening. Who knows what we will get into tomorrow in "Big P" as my grandma called it...ha ha! I know that we are going to the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe! I will have more details about my day tomorrow evening!

Oh one more thing...I learned something interesting today. When someone hands you a newspaper getting off the subway, they expect money from you as well. Yes, I do have a story to go along with this. When we came out of the metro this morning, some lady was waving a newspaper in front of be, basically hitting me with the thing and demanding that I take it. Well, to get her off my case, I took the newspaper and started to walk away. Next think I hear is "MAM, MAM!" I turn around and the newspaper lady is coming toward me telling me that I needed to give her money. Well, A) I didnt want her newspaper in the first place, and B) I was not getting money out to give her because I had to keep up with the group. So what did I do? I handed the newspaper back to her and walked away. Simple as that. It was just kind of bizarre, but I learned that if people are practically shoving newspapers down your throat, walk away quickly or dish out some money for the stupid newspaper QUICK. Oh what adventures I find myself getting into! It is never a dull moment!

Can't wait to tell you about more of my adventures in Paris real soon! Au Revoir!
