Today we traveled to Conques (pronounced conk), which is a small village situated on a hill a little over 2 hours from Ambialet. After making the very steep walk up the cobblestone hill, we visited the church of St Foy, a Romanesque church. The village was deserted for the most part. It is a very popular summer destination, but not so much in the winter months. Most places were closed and we hardly say any people there at all.
A group of us went into a restaurant in Conques and ordered crepes and coffee or hot chocolate during our free time. I am going to be addicted to crepes by the time I get back home. After leaving the restaurant in Conques, we went to the museum, where we saw the statue of St. Foy, which contains her relics.
When we walked in to the bathroom in Conques today, the first thing I saw was a European "toilet" more commonly knows as a hole in the ground. The first thing I said is "What is that thing?" Luckily there were a few actual toilets. I do not think I would have used the hole. Not sure I would have known how to haha!
Well after another long bus ride, I am back at the monastery. I have French study table right now, then dinner, then studying some more anatomy.
I hope everyone is staying safe back in the States with all the snow and ice. At least Mr. Groundhog said this morning that Spring is right around the corner! I also wanted to send a shout out of congrats to my "little" brother Adam for making it into the U.S. Navy Nuclear Field Program! We are all so proud!
Good Night Everyone!
